Supernova 2008

Mobile Connections

Supernova and TechCrunch are looking for the next great mobile ideas. And we want your help.

It's a safe bet that the most significant innovations in the Network Age will be tied to mobile communications. Reaching half the world's population, mobile devices vastly outnumber personal computers, telephones, televisions, and all other media and communications platforms. They are intrinsically social, and offer the potential for radically personalized experiences tied to people, places, and contexts. Mobile devices are both endpoints and platforms for services and content, with their value entirely dependent on connectivity. In short, they are the purest embodiment of the Network Age.

There are plenty of mobile devices and services, but the possibilities are even greater. For Mobile Connections at Supernova 2008, we're looking for game-changing innovations that provide a glimpse of the wireless future. This is not a startup contest -- it's a search for ideas. We're challenging anyone to make submissions... but, please, NO commercially-available products/services. We DO want to hear about innovative concepts, prototypes, research lab projects, hacks, and business ideas.

If your submission blows us away, we'll invite you to showcase it at Supernova 2008. You'll also enjoy coverage on TechCrunch -- the leading media site covering emerging technologies and companies today; and the Supernova Conversation Hub. There will be no charge for those selected.

Submissions can involve any innovation connected to mobile communications, including:
  • Devices
  • Applications
  • User interfaces
  • Business models
  • Location-based services
  • Development tools
  • Case studies
  • Wireless technologies
  • Mobile convergence platforms

We're deliberately leaving the criteria general. Surprise us! Submissions may be at any stage of development, although priority will be given to those which can form the basis of a mind-blowing demo.

Submission Information

Email your submission to mobile@supernova2008.com by May 23, 2008.

Be sure to provide full contact information for the person or people making the submission. Outline your idea and why it's a significant innovation. Feel free to attach supporting materials to the email (presentations, screen shots, etc.). Given the anticipated volume of submissions, we won't be able to respond individually to every submission. We will notify those whose ideas we are seriously considering by June 2.

Selectees will present their ideas during the Mobile Connections general session at Supernova on June 16, 2008, featuring Kevin Werbach and Michael Arrington. They will also participate in a special demo showcase (see below) after the conclusion of the session.

Mobile Connectors Showcase

For products and services companies who would like to take advantage of Supernova's focus on mobile innovations, but aren't eligible for the Mobile Connections program, we will have a special showcase area for demonstrations during our opening Networking Gala, the evening of June 16. It will be a part of a larger Technology Showcase, featuring new innovations in the Network Age. For pricing and package details, please contact Jeanne Logozzo.

Sponsorship Participation

We want to thank Nokia for being a launch sponsor for the Mobile Connections program. We are currently taking additional requests to participate in the program as a sponsor, which will include representation in the Mobile Connections general session and a dedicated spot in the Mobile Connectors Showcase area. We will only be accepting a limited number of sponsor participants. For general Supernova sponsorship information, please email us at sponsor@supernovagroup.net.
